Bright, dark red. Blackcurrant, graphite and tobacco on the nose, with a peppery, leafy overlay. At once dense and juicy, with brisk acidity framing the savory flavors of dark berries, licorice and herbs. Displays good varietal intensity and inner-mouth lift but needs time in bottle to gain in pliancy. Tannins are distinctly firm-edged, even a touch dusty today. There’s a sweet oak note showing but the wine’s fruit is distinctly cool. Drinking window: 2018 – 2022.
