Color: Deep amber Aroma: Spicy with sweet fruit, fresh oak and delicate corn notes underscored by a layer of vanilla and caramel Taste: A lively entry with spice, caramel and vanilla that melt into a mixture of fresh and dried fruit notes Finish: Warm with subtle hints of apple and corn
Wine Enthusiast 84 points - Surprisingly fruity, with notes of apples and pears, and a caramel note that accelerates into the finish. Despite a jarring resin note in the aroma, this is a decent mixer for cocktails, and you’re not going to beat the price. - K.N.  (Jul 2012)

Ultimate Beverage Challenge 91 points - A delightful nose of caramel and baked apple pie. The palate is intense and bold, with vanilla and burnt sugar flavors and a viscous and oily texture. (Mar 2013)

Experience where bourbon begins. A little bourbon history: Early Times started out as a bourbon back in 1860, and remained so until the early 1980s. It all started with our founder, Jack Beam (Jim’s uncle), who began working at his family’s distillery at the tender age of 15. In short order, he was running the operation and in 1860 built his own distillery at Early Times Station, Kentucky. Beam named his whisky Early Times, both as a tribute to its place of origin and as a nod to the old-world craftsmanship that goes into making it. He believed in the early times method of whisky-making: mashing grain in small tubs, boiling the beer and whisky in copper stills over open fires. It’s an abiding belief that has stayed with the Early Times brand ever since. By 1953 Early Times was the best-selling bourbon in the world. As the vintage advertising from that era proclaimed, Early Times is “the whisky that made Kentucky whiskies famous.” Steeped in bourbon history, Early Times Distillery’s federal permit, No. 354, is the longest held in Kentucky. Today Early Times pays homage to its rich bourbon heritage with Early Times 354 Bourbon. This classic, full-bodied bourbon honors that philosophy – delivering superior taste and exceptional value. In fact, Early Times 354 Bourbon was preferred by Jim Beam drinkers in a national, independent taste test.* Crafted with pure water, select grains and proprietary yeast, carefully distilled, matured for four years in select oak barrels and bottled at 80 proof, it’s the newest (and in a way, the oldest) member of the Early Times family.

The first Kentucky whisky hit the scene back in the late 1700s, when an unknown farmer stored his new whisky in a charred barrel. It’s the char that gives Kentucky whisky its smooth-drinking taste and distinctive red color. Like most bottled whiskies, Early Times Whisky came into being later – 1860 to be exact – at a place called Early Times Station, Kentucky. Kentucky water is perfect for making whisky. And the distillery carefully treats the water to insure that it is iron-free and therefore perfect for crafting a great whisky. Kentucky soil also plays its part, yielding plentiful crops of corn, barley and rye. It wasn’t until 1920 that Early Times really started to prosper. That was the year Congress passed the Volstead Act, and Prohibition began. During Prohibition ET was the one brand that BF purchased to augment its medicinal whisky inventory as a stand alone product. This was due to Early Times’ 63 year reputation as ”the whisky that made Kentucky whisky famous”. The Brown-Forman Company acquired Early Times in 1923 and over the next 30 years made Early Times the best-selling whisky in the country. Today its smoothness is savored in over 40 countries. In 1987 the Early Times Mint Julep was named the Official Drink of the Kentucky Derby®. Nearly 90,000 Early Times Mint Juleps are enjoyed at Churchill Downs® racetrack every Derby Week. To learn more, visit our Derby section. Whisky-industry icon Lincoln Henderson retired from his position of Early Times Master Distiller in 2004, handing the reins over to the well-deserving Chris Morris. That same year, Glenn Glaser succeeded Leo Reidinger as Distillery Manager. The transition proved to be as smooth as our whisky. Here’s proof: In 2005, Early Times became the best-selling Kentucky whisky in Japan.
